WHY STRENGTH TRAINING MATTERS — ESPECIALLY FOR WOMEN
Strength training has become increasingly popular over the last few years, and honestly, we’re here for it.
For a long time, women were encouraged to stick to cardio, lift light weights and focus on getting “toned” rather than actually getting stronger.
But strength training isn’t just about building muscle or lifting a heavier barbell.
It’s about building a body that can do more, for longer.
Strength isn't just about what happens in the gym
When we talk about getting stronger, we’re not just talking about hitting a new PB on your squat.
We’re talking about making everyday life easier.
Squatting, deadlifting, pressing, pulling and carrying all build strength that you can use outside the gym — whether that’s carrying your shopping, picking up your kids, climbing the stairs or getting up off the floor.
The goal is to build a body that is strong, capable and adaptable.
Why is strength training particularly important for women?
One of the biggest reasons is maintaining muscle and strength as we get older.
Muscle mass and strength naturally decline with age, but regular resistance training can help slow that process and maintain your physical capacity.
And this matters for much more than how you look.
Maintaining strength helps you maintain your independence and keep doing the things you love as you get older.
Bone health is another important reason for women to prioritise strength training. Women have an increased risk of osteoporosis as they age, particularly following menopause, and resistance and weight-bearing exercise can support bone health.
The squats, deadlifts and presses you're doing now aren't just helping you get stronger today.
You're giving your body a reason to stay strong for the future.
You don't need to be strong before you start
This is probably the biggest thing we want people to take away.
You do not need to get fit before joining CrossFit.
You don't need to be able to squat a barbell.
You don't need to do a pull-up.
You don't need to know what a snatch is.
And you definitely don't need to be the fittest person in the room.
You start where you are.
Our job as coaches is to give you the appropriate version of the workout for your current ability, teach you how to move safely and effectively, and help you progress from there.
As you get stronger, your scaling changes with you.
The things that once felt impossible start to feel normal — and eventually you realise you're doing things you never thought you could.
That's strength. 🧡
Build the body you want to have later
We don't train because we want to spend the rest of our lives in the gym.
We train so that we can spend the rest of our lives doing the things we actually want to do.
Going on holiday.
Playing with your kids.
Hiking.
Trying a new sport.
Keeping up with your friends.
Strength training is an investment in all of that.
You're not just training for the person you are today. You're building the body that future you is going to rely on.
And that's why we believe strength training should be a part of everyone's life — especially women.
